No Cars on Gould Street
For more than a decade, students fought for a safer campus by turning Gould Street into a pedestrian only street. The fight took organizing students, getting the university on board, and convincing city council to approve it.
The early days of advocacy from the students’ union and students included close Gould St. rallies, like the following one: Close Gould St Rally | Spacing
In 2010 city council voted to enact a 1 year pilot where Gould Street would be made a pedestrian only zone. In 2011 the pilot was extended for another year.
Finally, in 2012 City Council voted to make the pedestrian zone permanent, ensuring students would enjoy a car free Gould St. until the present day.
