My name is Shammis Jumah Ali, and I’m running for the Faculty of Engineering & Architectural Science (FEAS) Board of Directors at TMSU because I want to build support networks that shape our academic and professional prospects and give students a voice. As a student of computer engineering actively involved in TMU’s engineering community, I have witnessed both the challenges and the immense potential of our professors, and I’m determined to represent them with openness, commitment, and action.
As a member of the MUES Computer Committee, I currently provide academic materials, industry-focused events, and technical seminars to over 6,100 engineering students. In addition, I work as a Team Lead at Met Firsts Create, where I provide mentorship, design advice, and practical innovation to assist students in transforming their ideas into actual engineering projects.
I have expertise in community leadership, robotics, and accessibility-driven engineering design. I finished the Takeoff Robotics Program, where my team received the Most Resourceful award, and I recently took first place in the MFC Re-Engineering Competition, where I created a traffic-light system that is more sustainable and accessible. As a Finance Associate with the East African Student Association (EASA), I also support TMU’s cultural and student life.
My capacity to lead, interact, communicate, and develop projects that directly benefit kids has improved as a result of these jobs. In my capacity as your TMSU Board representative, I will support:
Increased financial support for engineering clubs, design teams, and student-led projects
Increased visibility and advocacy for engineering and architectural science issues
Stronger co-ops, networking, and industry development opportunities;
More academic and mental health support for EAS students
I’m running because I genuinely care about this faculty, and I’m ready to work hard to represent our needs, our challenges, and our vision for a stronger TMU.
