I’m Latif Syed, studying real estate, finance and law at TRSM. I’ve worked in all three fields and want to use that experience as your TMSU Faculty Director for TRSM.
I represented TRSM on TMU’s Senate, actively questioning and debating policy. I’m a voting member of TRSM Faculty Council and the Dean’s Undergraduate Student Advisory Committee and have held executive roles in five student groups. I now serve as co-president of the new Ted Rogers Alternative Investments Club (TRAIC).
I’m not running on vague promises. I’m already advocating for an alumni–student dashboard for mentorship and jobs, a year-round course outline repository for all TRSM students, more affordable meals, stronger Real Estate and Co-op programs, better course offerings and student experience and improving TRSM/TMU’s reputation.
Long term, I hope to build a career in real estate, student housing, public infrastructure and public policy – and one day run for public office. That starts with serving you – making the system work for students, not the other way around.
My priorities are to: restore trust in TMSU through professional, transparent governance; close gaps in legal and financial student support so our diverse communities across cultures, faiths, ethnicities and genders have real help and advocacy, and an inclusive, equitable campus, and I will act without bias, as is the duty of the Board; deliver real value for your fees through transparent budgets, stronger support for clubs and affordability initiatives; and ensure real consultation, not tokenism, via town halls, open office hours, surveys, volunteers and timely disclosure.
If elected, I will seek to sit on the Audit and Finance Committees to secure quarterly and audited financial statements, stronger disclosure policies, full transparency around TMSU funds and proper paper trails – holding myself, fellow directors and TMSU accountable to you.
Thank you for your trust.
