I’m a 4th year Urban and Regional Planning Student with extensive experience within our student government throughout all levels, and I’m putting my name and best efforts forward to lead our Students’ Union as President.
I think that despite the massive resources at our Students’ Union there is a severe lack of faith in its ability to deliver to students a satisfactory standard of service. This is due to many things, but primarily a lack of genuine relationship building with TMU Administration, communication with student groups, and overall diverse funding for student initiatives.
Ultimately however, cleaning up shop would be my first priority. The by-laws regarding things such as elections conduct, financial review, and student oversight have become outdated to the point where what used to be attributed to lack of compliance can only lead to corruption. The TMSU needs experienced students with a high professional standard in order to not just improve, but actually fulfill its mission. This can only be done at the core of its documents, namely the by-laws. As I hope to lead TMSU, I hope to be able to build on the current work being done to update the by-laws, and bring about significant changes in how it spends money, hires staff, and conducts itself in a day-to-day manner.
Keep an eye out for me on campus and please reach out when you see me or my campaign materials. Our campus is always better when students are heard.
