Hi! I’m Alaa, and I’m a first-year nursing student running to represent the Faculty of Community Services at the TMSU’s Board of Directors.
As a first year, I’ve so far been given the opportunity to not only learn in the classroom, but also from the diverse experiences and perspectives of those I was fortunate to meet. As a nursing student, I’m constantly reminded that meaningful advocacy always begins with listening and learning from those we engage with and serve. That mindset motivates me to step forward and contribute to our faculty, and to our university’s student union meaningfully.
The role of a Faculty Director goes beyond simply attending board meetings. It means actively representing students, participating in committees, contributing to discussion and decisions at the TMSU Board, and ensuring that the needs and perspectives of our faculty are reflected in the work the union does for its members.
If elected, one of my priorities will be strengthening communication between students and their representatives. Students deserve to know what decisions at the TMSU are being made, how they affect them, and how they can be involved. I am committed to sharing regular updates and maintaining accessible channels where students share their concerns, ideas, and feedback.
Our faculty is diverse, and that diversity should be reflected in the way we approach leadership and decision-making. Above all, I want students in the faculty to feel that their perspectives matter and that they have someone who is genuinely listening and advocating for them.
By listening to students, encouraging participation in campus initiatives, and working collaboratively with other directors, I hope to help strengthen our community.
Together, we can keep moving our faculty forward.
