Postponed: Purple Carpet: ‘Thrives in Silence’ Premiere

November 23 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Thrives in Silence

EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED

We have made the decision to postpone the Purple Carpet event happening this Thursday. This event was meant to be an honest and vulnerable conversation with survivors about the serious issue of sexual violence on this campus, and we do not feel we have the capacity to justly host our current speakers with the current misinformation of sexual violence occurring within the TMSU. This event is incredibly important, and we want to be able to promote and run it in a way that keeps the focus on the documentary and the amazing people involved – the survivors featured, the production team and the staff of C3SVS.

Sexual violence thrives in silence. We do not want the postponement of this event to be seen as silencing voices, we instead want your voices to be heard by the people who are able to make change. We would like to share a spare for folks to voice their concerns regarding sexual violence at TMU in order to actively work on making changes. All submissions to this form will be reviewed and included in a report that will help shape both our contributions to the TMU Sexual Violence Policy review that is currently happening.

Sexual violence can also bring up a lot of difficult emotions. If you need support during this time please do not hesitate to reach out to our Centre for Safer Sex and Sexual Violence Support (c3svs.ca), our Sexual Assault Survivor Support Line (437 600-7575), or the TMU Consent Comes First Office (torontomu.ca/sexual-violence).

The Purple Carpet event will be moved to Tuesday, January 23 as part of Consent Action Week, location to be determined. We hope to see you all there to join us in a powerful conversation about sexual violence.

Event Details

TMSU’s Purple Carpet Event invites student to join in on conversations regarding safety on campus and addressing issues of sexual and gender-based violence on post-secondary campuses. The Purple represents the resilience and marks 16 days of Action against gender-based violence. The event will feature a community fair, panel, keynote and musical performance, and premiere the short-documentary ‘Thrives in Silence.’

‘Thrives in Silence’ is a student-produced short film by Horizon Documentaries and delves into the impact and solutions of addressing sexual and gender-based violence on university campuses. In collaboration with the TMSU’s Centre for Safer Sex and Sexual Violence Support (CSSSVS) we invite students to empower themselves with art and resources to help navigate their university life.

Located in the TMU’s Engineering & Computing Science Theatre (ENG103), we invite you to watch our film, listen to performing artist and interact with our selected speakers panel. Community organizers will also be there and we will be having a short networking session followed by our film and concluded with light dinner hors d’oeuvres.
