My name is Eli Eusebio Ramon Arce, and I am a Politics & Governance student running to be the Faculty of Arts Director because our union should be more than a line on our fees. Coming from a marginalized background, I know what it feels like when institutions speak about “equity” and “transparency” but fail to live up to them. The TMSU’s history of weak governance, financial mismanagement, and compromised elections has damaged trust, but recent clean audits, clearer policies, and stronger oversight show that real reform is possible. I’m running to help make that shift deeper, more durable, and impossible to roll back.
My priorities are accountability, affordability, and equity:
- Accountability means regular public updates on Board agendas, votes, and outcomes; plain-language summaries of major decisions affecting Arts students; and consistent communication channels, including social media and open office hours, so students can actually see and question the inner workings of the TMSU. It also means calling out fraudulent or unethical behavior, insisting on proper investigations, and protecting those who speak up.
- Affordability and accessibility mean that information about key supports is clear and easy to find. This includes advocacy, wellbeing, financial and affordable discounted Pro Tools are within reach for every student
- Equity and empowerment mean turning the TMSU’s commitments to women, BIPOC, people with disabilities, 2SLGBTQ+, low-income, and other marginalized students into concrete action: campaigns that match our realities, funding that reaches those most affected, and governance and elections that are fair, transparent, and truly student-centered.
If these goals align with what you want from the TMSU, consider voting for a Faculty of Arts Director who treats information as a right, addresses misconduct responsibly, and helps build a more honest, transparent, and accountable union.
