The Toronto Metropolitan Students’ Union (TMSU) is currently seeking candidates to fill the position of Volunteer and Street Team Lead. The position is directly supervised by the Communications Coordinator.
Job Responsibilities
- Facilitate and implement the TMSU Volunteer and Street Team Program, including the recruitment, training, coordination, appreciation and evaluation of the program
- With other TMSU team members, plan and implement the marketing and recruitment strategy for the TMSU volunteer program – including transitioning interested students into active volunteers
- Coordinate training and onboarding programs for TMSU volunteers, including developing and presenting volunteer training, updating and referencing training manuals, and identifying opportunities for further training and development opportunities
- Coordinate the volunteer program including scheduling, onsite coordination, reconciliation and debriefing with volunteers
- Coordinate the solicitation of volunteer opportunities with TMSU departments and translating proposed opportunities into tangible outcomes and value for volunteers
- Coordinate small and large volunteer appreciation opportunities
- Facilitate regular evaluation of the volunteer program
- Responsible for reviewing & making recommendations to the TMSU’s volunteer policy & procedures
Successful Candidates Will Possess
- Passion for topics regularly discussed by the students’ union, such as student engagement & success, social justice & equity, and student action & movement building.
- Ability to overcome challenges and lead a project from concept and planning through to successful execution.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Capacity to participate in street outreach and public speaking.
- Can work independently with minimal supervision but is team oriented.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
- Strong organisational skills with proven ability to work within deadlines and adhere to regular tasklists.
- Ability to motivate others and recruit volunteers.
- Knowledge and understanding of equity issues, anti-oppression and creating inclusive spaces.
- Experience with conflict resolution and de-escalation tactics is considered a strong asset.
- Must be a student at Toronto Metropolitan University.
