The Toronto Metropolitan Students’ Union (TMSU) is currently seeking candidates to fill the position of Events and Programming Lead. The position is directly supervised by the Events and Sponsorship Coordinator.
Job Responsibilities
- Coordinate the planning of TMSU events and successful implementation of TMSU events for members, including being onsite and present for the event
- Facilitate the evaluation of TMSU events through data analytics, team debriefs, soliciting student and volunteer feedback, report writing and other avenues for feedback
- Collaborate with TMSU departments and external vendors, including soliciting vendors and requests for proposals, to coordinate successful events
- Collaborate with the Student Campus Centre, student societies, campus groups, course unions, university departments and other on or off-campus partners to create effective events that meet the target goals for all partners
- Coordinate outreach and community engagement at events, including tabling, handing out flyers, and running photobooths and other activations
- Participate in the graphic design request procedure and work with communications and outreach team members to effectively market and promote TMSU events
- Provide information and data for volunteer opportunities, and, when appropriate, assist in the training and coordination of volunteers in the implementation of TMSU events
- Responsible for reviewing & making recommendations to the TMSU’s event planning policy & procedures
Successful Candidates Will Possess
- Passion for topics regularly discussed by the students’ union, such as student engagement & success, social justice & equity, and student action & movement building.
- Ability to occasionally work evening events, sometimes in the presence of alcohol.
- Ability to overcome challenges and lead a project from concept and planning through to successful execution.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Capacity to participate in street outreach and public speaking.
- Can work independently with minimal supervision but is team oriented.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
- Strong organisational skills with proven ability to work within deadlines and adhere to regular tasklists.
- Ability to motivate others and recruit volunteers.
- Knowledge and understanding of equity issues, anti-oppression and creating inclusive spaces.
- Experience with conflict resolution and de-escalation tactics is considered a strong asset.
- Must be a student at Toronto Metropolitan University.
